Procrastination

I am one of the world’s best procrastinators, I think. (Or worst, depending on how you look at it.) I’m not sure what to do about it. I can sit and stare at my computer for hours just browsing through Twitter or Tumblr and killing time even when there’s stuff I could and should be doing, but I feel like if I attempt to do something when I don’t feel like doing it then my work becomes half-assed. Does anyone else feel that way, too, or am I just crazy?

Despite my complete lack of self-control when it comes to procrastinating, I usually make my deadlines just fine. I’ve only gotten projects done late when I’ve been overloaded or stressed out with work and, in that case, I always let my boss know when that happens (which is often!). I do, however, have this uncanny ability to work fast once I get going and in the “zone,” and sometimes I even feel like I do my best work when it’s at the last minute (I know that in most cases that doesn’t make sense, either) and/or late at night. I am certainly not by any means a Morning Person. It is the hardest part about my day, waking up in the morning. I have to set 4 alarms, 30 minutes apart just to get myself out of that sleepy state (7:30, 8, 8:30, 9 am) and even with all of that I still feel like I’m dragging myself out of bed against my will. I guess I’m just more of a night person, I could stay up for hours working or reading or whatever.

I’m the same way – being under pressure is so much more conducive to completing a task for me than getting something out of the way early. My mom tells me that if I had 5 days to do something that really could be done in 1 day, I would take the whole 5 days. Prime example: cleaning my room.
