I’ve owned a box of Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips for about a year, and never once used them. Something about the idea of stickers on my fingernails sounded unappealing, and I assumed they wouldn’t last very long or would be annoying to apply.
However, thanks to a bought of insomnia and boredom at 2 am about 5 nights ago, I finally decided to make use of these. I have the pattern Laced Up applied onto my nails currently, and I have to say I’m mildly impressed with their longevity so far. Granted, yes, they have chipped now—I didn’t put a top coat on it at all, so, really, it’s about the same as normal polish is for me sans top coat—and I didn’t put them on perfectly straight or perfectly covering my nail, but I’ll forgive myself that transgression since it was my first time attempting nail stickers and it was, after all, the middle of the night.
Anyway, I like them so far! I’ll have to try some other brands, I have heard good things about the Incoco ones. I also pledged some money to a nerdy/geeky nail wraps Kickstarter so I’ still waiting for those to come in, too. (I picked the galaxy nail wrap, of course!)
This post is my first nail of the day, and I’m quite pleased to introduce you to Zoya’s Izzy polish! Izzy is a bright fuchsia with fine glitter that really catches the light. She’s part of Zoya’s Holiday 2011 collection and I received a sample size of her (0.25 fl oz, half a full size) in my Birchbox this month.
This is the first Zoya polish I’ve ever tried and I was really, really impressed! Izzy was perfectly opaque in one coat, which has never happened to me before. Even Butter London polishes—the most expensive polishes I own at $14/bottle—require two coats for full opacity.
I’ve only been wearing the shade for a day (since I painted my nails last night) but the wear seems pretty good. I will admit that I do have one small chip on the index finger of my left hand, but that was from banging my finger against some glass in a pastry shop earlier this evening. The chip is super, super minor though and I don’t think it’s the fault of the polish… just my clumsiness. There’s also been a tinsy bit of wear on the very edges of my fingers but that happens with all polishes I’ve tried, I suspect due to the way I type with the tips of my fingers/nails.
